Ghost of Global Warming
In an unseasoned season of early spring
shorts and sandals blossom before daffodils
and tulips have their day; the schoolyard,
its ice rink a thin puddle, its snow forts
vanquished, thunders with the beat of basketball.
So, too, she notes the arrivals of the Fritillary Butterfly
and the Aspen Fleabane, the bud coming too soon,
the butterfly too late, calendar bewitched.
